How it works

How the program works

Imagination Library is simple by design: Every enrolled child receives one free, age-appropriate book in the mail each month until they turn 5. The only requirements are that you live in Lowndes County, Mississippi and your child is under the age of 5. No fees – ever. Just books, arriving like clockwork.

The Books

Books chosen with care, matched to your child’s age.

Every book in the Imagination Library collection is selected by a team of early childhood literacy experts. As your child grows, so do the books — from sturdy board books for newborns to richly illustrated picture books for preschoolers. The very first book every enrolled child receives is The Little Engine That Could.

Books are mailed directly to your child, addressed to them by name — which is a small thing but makes for an exciting visit to the mailbox. Enroll your child.

Our local program

Locally run. Locally supported.

The Lowndes County Imagination Library is an independently operated affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the global program founded by Dolly Parton in 1995 in her home county in Tennessee. We handle local enrollment, donor relations, and community outreach — the national program handles book curation and fulfillment. Together, we make sure books reach children right here in Columbus and across Lowndes County. Learn more about us.
