About Us
We believe every Lowndes County child deserves books. And a head start.
We are a locally run, donor-supported nonprofit serving Lowndes County, Mississippi — and a proud affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Our Story
A decade of books – and counting.
Lowndes County Imagination Library was established in 2014 with founding support from The Commercial Dispatch. What began as a local expression of a powerful national idea has grown into one of our community’s most tangible investments in children: more than 160,000 books delivered to Lowndes County families over the past decade, and more than 2,000 children who have graduated from the program.
We are an independently operated, donor-supported affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library — the global childhood literacy initiative founded by Dolly Parton in 1995. Our board and staff are neighbors, parents, and community members who believe that putting books in the hands of young children is one of the most effective and joyful things a community can do together. A simple donation of $25 will fund books for an entire year for a child. Will you help this effort?
